Vision

We are living in a period of which I think is the most rapidly changing in history. So rapidly, that it is sometimes hard for me to grasp where we are heading.

One thing that I am sure of is that in the future we will produce products ourselves. The keywords nowadays are OpenSource or community sharing. Self-production will be the future. Designers should take a leading role in developing this future.

Therefor personalisation and usability for everyone are of a big importance for me in design. I want everyone to be able to use my products. This will prevent the gap, between digitalized and non-digitalized world, from getting bigger. For example, elderly and third-world countries will also be able to use and understand technical products. A way to enhance this, is to take the function of digital products out of its context (an app out of the smartphone) and turn it into an easy to use product. This will help people to become more social again instead of using their phone the whole time.

Putting things in another context is something I like. Designs that give a new dimension to already existing products have my interests. For example creative DIY-products made out of everyday things. This also refers to my identity. Working hands-on, personalizing and looking at objects from a different perspective.

Furthermore, I seek simplicity in design. With that, I mean not-farfetched and focused on functionality. Designs that don't have a real added value for me, become boring. Aesthetics and fun can also be such an added value, decoration with focus on making a product more appealing for instance. The focus therefor doesn't solely lay on functionality. Take the clocks of Pogetti for example; a clock should show time, though these clocks are also appealing, therefor they get an added value as long as that does what it should. Therefor it is better to say: Does a product do what it should do. Within that I seek and want to achieve the best quality.
